The New Jersey Racing Commission released a brief synopsis of its drug testing programs during the commission's meeting today at the Meadowlands. Last year, a total of 36,516 horses were tested, resulting in 46 positives-- or 0.12 percent. The figure represented a slight decrease from 2008 when 39,760 horses were tested, resulting in 56 positives, or 0.14 percent.
In addition, 795 humans were tested, with six positives (0.75 percent).
In other news, it was reported that the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority expects its new off-track wagering facility in Bayonne to open by April 2011.
The facility, which last November got the green light from the commission, will be on six acres and consist of 35,000 square feet over two floors. The Bayonne Council and Planning Board both endorsed the plan last year.
